چکیده

Over the past few years, we have developed JCAT, a system for building Web-based collaborative active textbooks on algorithms. JCAT augments the expressive power of Web pages for publishing passive multimedia information with a full-fledged interactive algorithm animation system. Views of a running program can reside on different machines; in an electronic classroom or distance learning setting, a teacher controls the animation, while students view the animation by pointing their Web browsers at the appropriate page. In this report, we integrate our earlier work on using interactive 3D graphics for algorithm animation into the JCAT system, and we present three new animations. The JCAT architecture is well-suited for 3D animations because each user can interact with the 3D views locally, independent of the views on other machines. The ability to interactively control a 3D scene provides motion cues that are crucial for resolving ambiguities of 3D scenes displayed on flat screens.

Comparing Efficiency of Web Based Learning Contents on Different Media

We tried to find out what kind of multimedia learning materials gave the most efficient and effective results with regards to learning time and knowledge gained. Different web based learning materials were used as regards presentation mode: static pictures, animations with online text and animations with narrated text. Although the research results showed that learners from WBL contents with st...

Collaborative Active Textbooks: A Web-Based Algorithm Animation System for an Electronic Classroom

This paper describes CAT, a Web-based algorithm animation system. CAT augments the expressive power of Web pages for publishing passive multimedia information with a full-fledged interactive algorithm animation system. It improves on previous Web-based algorithm animations by providing a framework that makes it easy to construct new animations, including those that involve multiple views. Becau...

Molecular and cellular biology animations: development and impact on student learning.

Educators often struggle when teaching cellular and molecular processes because typically they have only two-dimensional tools to teach something that plays out in four dimensions. Learning research has demonstrated that visualizing processes in three dimensions aids learning, and animations are effective visualization tools for novice learners and aid with long-term memory retention. The World...

X3D Web Based Algorithm Animation

3D web software visualization has always been expensive, special purpose and hard to programme. Flash requires proprietary authoring tools and involves large amounts of scripting to produce 3D effects, Java applets are slow to load and are not reliable on all platforms, and VRML is no longer maintained. We can make 3D software visualization cheap, portable and easy by using X3D, which is a ligh...

110a Algorithm Animation Using 3D Interactive Graphics

This report describes a variety of 3D interactive graphics techniques for visualizing programs. The third dimension provides an extra degree of freedom for conveying information, much as color adds to black-and-white images, animation adds to static images, and sound adds to silent animations. The examples in this report illustrate three fundamental uses of 3D: for providing additional informat...
